Thursday, 29 October 2026 — The Johannesburg Stock Exchange is pleased to announce the listing of the MitonOptimal EasyETFs SA Protected Equity Actively Managed ETF to the Main Board.
The fund listed on the JSE, giving investors access to professional active management with the transparency, liquidity, and convenience of a listed instrument traded through a stockbroker or investment platform.
Trading under the share code MITONC , this actively managed exchange-traded fund (AMETF) will give investors access to MitonOptimal’s active investment expertise through an easily accessible, exchange-traded structure. Issued by EasyETFs (RF) (Pty) Ltd, with MitonOptimal South Africa (Pty) Ltd as investment manager, the AMETF will focus exclusively on South African assets in line with its investment mandate.
Adèle Hattingh, Manager: Specialist Securities at the JSE, said: “We’re pleased to welcome the MitonOptimal EasyETFs SA Protected Equity AMETF to our growing AMETF market, expanding the range of innovative investment products available on the JSE. It offers South African investors a regulated, exchange-traded way to access a professionally managed portfolio, combining the growth potential of local equities with a clear focus on managing downside risk.”
MitonOptimal South Africa (Pty) Ltd, the asset manager behind the portfolio, is an independent, owner-managed discretionary fund manager that has partnered with South African financial advisers since 2000. The firm manages multi-asset portfolios with an emphasis on capital preservation, risk management and consistent long-term outcomes.
Roeloff Horne, Chief Investment Officer at MitonOptimal South Africa, said: “For more than 25 years, our approach to managing client money has stayed the same: spread the risk, manage the downside and aim for positive returns across market conditions. The MitonOptimal AMETF applies that approach to South African equities, using protective strategies designed to cushion losses when markets fall. It brings together MitonOptimal’s investment capabilities and Catalyx Capital’s implementation capabilities, and is managed by a team rather than a single individual. Listing the fund on the JSE makes this approach available to a much wider range of investors.”
The fund is an actively managed portfolio designed to capture the long-term growth potential of South African equities while limiting the impact of market downturns. Rather than tracking an index, its managers adjust holdings as market conditions change. Pairing local equity exposure with liquid assets and approved financial instruments, this instrument aims to protect capital during market stress to ensure the portfolio runs efficiently and strategically.
As market conditions change, managers of the AMETF adjust holdings, pairing local equity exposure with liquid assets. This instrument aims to protect capital during market stress and keep the portfolio running efficiently. The fund targets returns of inflation (CPI) plus 5% a year, measured over rolling 36-month periods, which reflects its focus on steady, inflation-beating growth over the medium to long term rather than short-term market movements. Income generated by the portfolio, including dividends, will be distributed to investors annually.
